Print Advert Analysis- Bush

I found my advert in a men’s health magazine called “Men’s Health”. The advert is by the world wide shop “Next” and is for men’s clothing. This advert was pout into this magazine because of its target audience, as they are aiming this advert at a male audience, for their primary audience. Firstly I am going to talk about the colour of the advert. The background is mainly a white colour even though there are buildings in the back. This white connotes a peaceful, more relaxed mood. This connects to the reader that men are more stressed and worried so by wearing the clothes offered by Next they will feel more comfortable and more relaxed. The only text on the advert is the shops name; it is in a bright red colour and is the thing that stands out from everything else. The rest of the colours in the advert are calm, relaxing colours where as this red is jumping out at the reader. This effect helps the reader know straight away that the advert is by Next. So even if they didn’t see the whole advert while flicking through, they maybe a Next fan and just stop to look at the advert.
The picture is framed so that the background is blurry and that the subject is clear. This connotes that the only thing that is important is the subject and his clothes. Everything else is normal and that the clothes bring and unique characteristic. This editing has been done so it draws out the attention of the main subject of the photograph which is the clothes.
The shop name writing is the only font on the image. The size of the font takes up most of the bottom part of the photograph. This helps notice the shops name. So people realise the quality of the clothes straight away as Next is a big company.
The type of shot taken is a median shot. We can see half of the subject’s body and most of the background. This cinematography is effective because its shows off the clothes, which is what the advert is trying to do. It gives a clear view of the clothes and is more productive as the audience can see the clothes properly.
The subject of the photograph is the young aged man wearing the stylish clothes sold by Next. The reason of using the young aged man is because he is the type of audience Next want to promote their clothes to; Young middle aged men 21-30 years.
The photograph seems to be taken in a local town. The setting that has been chosen for the photograph connotes that you don’t have to be rich to buy clothes from Next. You can be from a small town, and still look like your from a higher class without spend that much.
The atmosphere and mood are affected by the lighting. It makes the setting seem more relaxed and stress free. Also the back light in the background making the main subject of the picture stand out more and making him seem the most important thing on the page. However the key light is on the model emphasising him more.
The model in the photograph is standing slightly sloughed and calm. This connotes to the audience that the clothes are comfortable and soft. This would make them want to buy it more.  The model is facing towards us but looking in a different direction, this allows him to show off his clothes but look less arrogant.
