Media texts are profit motivated. Consider this in the light of TV news. What issues does this raise?
Media texts are often thought to be over exaggerated, this is because it is entertaining to the audience and it makes them want to watch it more. Media texts aims are to get the highest amount of views. Also they would want to gain control our minds, by this I mean our views on the social and political views. This could be one issue as people will start to believe what the media text say and start going against the right views of the world.
Which media companies do you think could be accused of having to much power and control in our society?
Advertising companies are accused to have to much power as they influence to do things such as buy products or vote for our government (during elections). Also most advertising companies use propaganda which is a form of false advertising therefore putting false views in the audience’s minds. Another example would be the UK government. They publish things about the wars around the world and only tell us what we need to hear for example about the British soldiers. Therefore manipulating the way we think things are going on in the other countries.
